Acceptance
KanjiKanji Modern (the "App") is operated by AI Persona, LLC ("we," "us," or "our"). By downloading, installing, accessing, or using the App, or by purchasing a subscription or other in-app product, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not install or use the App. If you are using the App on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization to these Terms.
License
We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the App for personal, non-commercial purposes on Apple devices you own or control, per the Apple App Store Terms of Service. The App is licensed, not sold.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code from the App.
- Use the App to violate any law or third-party right.
- Circumvent technical limitations or paywalls (including, but not limited to, the Premium subscription).
- Resell or sublicense access to the App or its content.
- Use the App in any manner that could damage, disable, overburden, or impair our services.
Intellectual property
The App, including its code, design, brand assets, curated curriculum ordering, and original mnemonic content, is owned by AI Persona, LLC and protected by copyright, trademark, and other laws.
The App makes use of the following third-party content under open licenses:
- KanjiVG (© Ulrich Apel) — stroke-order data, licensed under CC BY-SA 3.0.
- JMdict/KANJIDIC (© The Electronic Dictionary Research and Development Group) — kanji and dictionary reference data, licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0.
Your learning data (kanji you have studied, your custom mnemonics, your study sets) remains yours. You can export it at any time from Settings.
Subscriptions and payments
The App offers a free tier, auto-renewable Premium subscriptions (billed monthly or yearly), and a one-time Premium Lifetime purchase. All purchases are made through the Apple App Store and are processed by Apple, not by us. Your purchase is also subject to the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions. The Subscription Terms are part of these Terms of Service and contain the full pricing, trial, auto-renewal, cancellation, and refund disclosures. If anything in the Subscription Terms conflicts with this section, the more specific provision controls.
Auto-renewable subscriptions renew automatically at the then-current price unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period. Your Apple ID is charged for each renewal within 24 hours before the period ends. You authorize these recurring charges until you cancel.
No refunds — all sales are final
All purchases are final and non-refundable. We do not offer refunds, credits, or partial refunds for any subscription period, one-time purchase, or unused or partially used period, including where you:
- change your mind, stop using the App, or forget to cancel before a renewal;
- cancel partway through a paid period (see "Cancellation" below);
- are dissatisfied with the App's features, content, or difficulty;
- lose access because your account was terminated for breach of these Terms; or
- experience temporary service interruptions, bugs, or downtime.
Because Apple — not us — processes every transaction, any refund is issued solely at Apple's discretion under Apple's policies. We do not control, guarantee, or process refunds directly, and a refund request to us cannot create a right to one. To ask Apple for a refund, use reportaproblem.apple.com. Nothing in this section limits any non-waivable refund or cancellation rights you may have under the mandatory consumer-protection laws of your country or state; where such rights apply, they prevail over this section to the extent required by law.
Cancellation
You can cancel an auto-renewable subscription at any time through your Apple ID subscription settings (Settings → your name → Subscriptions, or the App Store on a Mac). See the Subscription Terms for step-by-step instructions.
Cancellation stops future renewals only. It is not prorated and does not end your current paid term early. When you cancel:
- your subscription will not renew for the next period and you will not be charged again;
- your Premium access remains active for the remainder of the period you have already paid for;
- at the end of that paid period, the subscription ends and Premium access stops; and
- you are not entitled to a refund or credit for the remaining, unused portion of the current period.
In other words, cancelling today does not cut your access off today — you keep Premium until the term you paid for runs out, and then it lapses. The Premium Lifetime purchase is a one-time, non-recurring purchase and is likewise non-refundable.
User-generated content
If you create custom mnemonics or study sets within the App, you retain ownership of that content. The App stores it locally and may sync it via iCloud per your settings. We do not share user-generated content with other users without explicit consent.
Termination
You may stop using the App and delete it at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you materially breach these Terms. On termination, the license granted to you ends; provisions that by their nature survive (intellectual property, the no-refund policy, limitation of liability, and governing law) continue to apply. Termination for breach does not entitle you to any refund, and any fees already paid remain non-refundable as described above.
Disclaimers
THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT YOU WILL PASS THE JLPT — that's on you.
Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE APP IS LIMITED TO THE AMOUNT YOU HAVE PAID FOR THE APP IN THE 12 MONTHS PRECEDING THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM. WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES.
Apple-specific terms
You acknowledge that these Terms are between you and the App publisher, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the App or its content. Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support. You acknowledge that Apple is a third-party beneficiary of these Terms with respect to your use of the App.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Colorado, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law provisions. Disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Colorado, and you consent to their jurisdiction, except where the mandatory consumer-protection laws of your place of residence require otherwise.
Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms. Material changes will be announced in the App and via the changelog. Continued use of the App after a change constitutes acceptance.
