Features
A curriculum that meets you where you are.
On day one, KanjiKanji Modern runs a brief assessment that estimates your current JLPT level. From there, the Adaptive Learning System selects new kanji by frequency and difficulty, and balances daily new-kanji learning against your active review pile.
Placement assessment
A quick on-app quiz tests recall and recognition across JLPT levels. Your answers seed a starting curriculum — no need to slog through N5 if you've already passed it.
Persona detection
The app classifies you as Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced based on assessment answers + early review patterns, then shapes pacing and which kanji surface first.
Frequency-ordered selection
New kanji are introduced in the order most likely to give you reading wins fastest — high-frequency, daily-life characters before specialized vocabulary.
Pacing is a feature, not a paywall
The free tier paces you to 3 new kanji per day. Premium raises the cap to 20. But the cap is not the goal — overlearning is the most common failure mode in language study. The Adaptive Learning System will slow you down if your review performance starts to drop.
If you've ever quit Anki after a 200-card day spiraled into a 500-card backlog, this is the difference: a curriculum that actively prevents that loop.
Automatic persona detection (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced) during onboarding adjusts both the starting curriculum and the ongoing learn/review balance for the lifetime of your account.
